Jim is the former Commander of United States Space Command, the nation’s 11th and newest Combatant Command. During his tenure, Jim led US Space Command to full operational capability that enabled the command to provide strategic effects in support of the National Command Authority. He has commanded at every level from battery to combatant command. Throughout his career, Jim has held a variety of staff and command positions in space and missile defense.
In addition, Jim commanded the Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command and the Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense (STRATCOM). He commanded both 94th (IndoPacific) and 32d (FORSCOM/CENTCOM) Army Air and Missile Defense Commands, 35th ADA Brigade (8th Army/USFK), and 1st Bn,7th ADA Battalion (OIF/CENTCOM). He has served as the Director for Test for the Missile Defense Agency and Deputy to the Inspector General, US Army.
Commissioned through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Colorado State University, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He earned advanced degrees in operations research and system analysis from the Colorado School of Mines and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
After retiring, GEN(Ret) Dickinson serves as a senior advisor for Amazon/Kuiper Government Solutions, board member for Lynx Software Technologies, along with other advisory and board positions.
GEN(Ret) Dickinson and Angie retired in Colorado Springs from the US Army after a 38-year career. They have been married 39+ years, have four adult children, and seven grandchildren.
