Howard, Michael "Mike"

LTG, USA (Ret)

Mike retired from active Army service on 1 October 2022. He was commissioned into the Infantry in 1986. He commanded 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment; 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment; 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division; Train, Advise, Assist Command-East (Afghanistan); and the US Army Military District of Washington. He served as the Deputy Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division.

His final two assignments were with the United States European Command as the Director of Operations and Deputy Commander.  He has seen combat in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

His education includes a BS in Biology from Mercer University in Macon, GA and a MS in National Security Strategic Studies from the National War College at Fort McNair, DC.

His awards include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (2d Awd), Ranger Tab, Master Airborne Wings, and Bronze Star Medal (5th Awd). He wears 11 combat stripes on his right sleeve.

LTG(R) Howard is married and has three adult children.
