Gortney, Sherry - USN

Sherry Gortney is the 36 year wife of Admiral Bill Gortney. She is the daughter of a career civil servant who moved her from Pensacola to Orange Park, FL where Sherry and Bill started dating at Orange Park High School. They were married in 1980 at NAS Cecil Field Florida, just before Bill started the A-7E Fleet Replacement Squadron.

Sherry earned her degree as a Laboratory Technician and continued in that profession until Sherry and Bill decided to start a family. 

Sherry and Bill have enjoyed the typical Navy life, while raising their two children, Bill and Stephanie. They have called home, Orange Park Florida on four occasions, Lemoore, California once, Newport, Rhode Island once, Washington, DC three times, Bahrain once, Virginia Beach, Virginia once, Norfolk, Virginia once, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.  They have decided to settle in Virginia Beach, VA.

Sherry has been active in the spouses group for every tour which include Bill's six command tours and four executive officer, deputy commander position and Commander of NORTHCOM/NORAD positions. 

Sherry has also been active in Navy Spouses group that provide leadership and team building skills, other groups she has worked with are Navy and Marine Corps. Relief, Wings Over America, and Tidewater Officer Spouses Association.

Her hobbies include taking care of Bill (he is very high maintenance), crafts, cooking and entertaining, but most of all, chasing after their two grandsons, Gavin and Grayson.
